It was another perfect weekend for weather and Highland games in Fergus , Ontario .
On August 7 th to 9 th Clan MacNeil attended the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games .
We had a record number of visitors to the clan tent , lots of clan passports were handed out to the kids to have them stamped by the clans . The weekend started on Friday night with Highland dancers , Highland bands and an unbelievable concert by the Red Hot Chile Pipers . We also participated in the beautiful and moving “Lightin of the hearth “ ceremony as well .
It’s always fun and interesting to renew friendships with our fellow clansmen and women as well as the company of the other clans . We had lots of kids come by for clan crest stamping and to check out my claymore sword .
We had two very special visitors come by who were actually Highland dancing at the games and are MacNeils to boot . These girls always come by and visit with their parents when they are dancing at a games we are attending and say hi . Well ,today both girls won medals in the Highland dancing competition . Annika DeLeon won a second place medal in the Seann Triubhas ( shawn trews ) dance and Adrianna O’Neill won three medals , a second in the sword dance a third in the Seann triubhas dance and a forth in the Highland fling dance . We are very proud of our MacNeil girls , keep, up the good work .
We also had the proud distinction of being named “Best Clan Tent “ for 2015 . Bill Rowe of Rowe Electric and his wife chose Clan MacNeil this year . Clan MacNeil will have its name displayed as the first clan on the new John K Campbell trophy which will be presented from now on at the Fergus Games for best clan tent . I was very honoured to accept the trophy on behalf of our clan MacNeil .
I would like to give thanks to my brother Wayne , his girlfriend Michelle for helping at the clan tent and to Louise and Andy for taking part in the Friday night ceremony.
It was great to see so many MacNeils out to support the clan .
I hope if able you can find the time to come out to a Highland games near you and enjoy that little bit of Scotland they have to offer us here in Canada .
I will say this , Fergus puts on one heck of a festival in all respects of things Scottish and I highly recommend these games .
