Profile
A hotel for birds in our back garden.
Some time ago we built a house for the neighbourhood birds and it withstood the wind, rain and snow for many years. Although it was well liked and many birds found refuge, from the weather there, it was in badly need of repair.
So operation “new bird hotel” was put into action. The old one was taken down and a new one built. It was made of sturdier wood and weighed considerably more than the first one.
When it was complete it took several of us to hoist it into the air and place it back on its perch.
Now the new hotel is visited by many birds and it is a delight to watch them flying in with all bits of dead leaves, feathers and straw to make their new nests.
I will try and catch them in action, with my camera, and add the busy comings and goings to this page later.
With the running water from the waterfall into the fish pond we are beginning to create a habitat of several kinds of species to our garden.
Birds have come to call it home, and the new babies can be seen sticking their mouths out of the little holes ready for their parents to feed them.
It is such a delight to sit and watch them.
