Profile
I first glimpsed Dunster Castlle, high on the hillside, from the steam train as we chugged our way to the beach.
The next day, there it was again, as we parked the car and waited for the little bus to take us up the long steep incline to the castle itself.
The cafe had some delicious pastries on view so, a scone with jam and Somerset’s clotted cream was a must. Oh my! Was it scrumptious.
Well fed & watered off we went into the castle to try & compete in the Coronation Crown mystery tour. I thought we had found all 7, but on looking at my pictures there appears to be only 6. We fell short. The tapestry room held my attention for quite a while and the lady guide was very helpful in answering all my questions. And the library, what a fabulous collection of old books. It was certainly an interesting place.
The day was beautiful so a walk around the grounds was very pleasant. The flowers and trees were magnificent. There were little games for children to amuse themselves and a beautiful English Robin hopped along to say hello.
The river gurgled alongside the path with quaint stone bridges over it. After touring the mill and a quick visit into the shop, that sold all natural products, we sauntered off to the stables.
We decided to walk back down the slope ourselves. Arriving at the car, just before a few sprinkles of rain caught us.
What another fabulous day in Somerset, thanks to my cousin Charles & family. I will never forget it.
